Setting up and cleaning the Lucky cat fountain is very easy and only takes a few minutes. Cleaning should be done approximately every two to five days depending on the circumstances (number of cats, long-haired/short-haired, summer/winter).
If you have very hard water in your area, also think about the well and the pump to descale regularly or use a “Brita water filter” or cheap, still discount water.
Simple structure.
- Place the lower bowl of the Lucky-Kitty cat fountain in the place where you want the cat fountain to stand for your cat(s) (carrying around the lower bowl filled to the brim is only something for very clever people) and fill it as high as possible with water - i.e. at least 1.5 liters. If you are setting up the cat fountain for the first time, please stick the 4 foam rubber feet under the lower bowl. Check whether the surrounding silicone ring (prevents “rattling”) rests completely on the lower edge of the lower shell.
Fill the lower bowl with 1.5 liters of water.
- You can change the pump pressure a little using the small dial on the pump, so if you want a little more or a little less pressure, you can regulate it here (- and + label).
To get the maximum pressure, the small bump on the inside of the pump cover (as shown in the picture) should be turned all the way to the left. Then the elevation after clipping on the lid is congruent with the elevation on the propeller cover and the opening for the water flow is particularly large. If you want less water pressure, the elevation should be turned all the way to the right.
If you want to have a "small fountain", you can also use this little trick here: http://on.fb.me/1TqIjqI (Link to Facebook)
Adjust the pump strength, then place it in the front third of the lower shell and press firmly.
- Place the pump in the middle or even slightly in the front third of the lower shell (never in the back part, because then the hose can kink and not enough water flows) and press it firmly to the floor with the suction feet. Run the cable loosely backwards over the small recess in the bottom shell. First remove the white angle connector from the pump, we'll need it soon. You can adjust the strength of the pump using the small dial on the side flap of the pump. "+" is the maximum pump performance, "-" is the smallest setting.
Use the long-hair permanent filter available as an accessory and position it in the lower bowl in front of the pump. (Picture right)
Adjust the pump strength, then place it in the front third of the lower shell and press firmly.
-
Place the upper shell in front of you (bottom side up) and push the silicone hose as far as possible over the small connector in the upper shell. Tip: if you moisten the inside of the hose a little beforehand and touch it with a kitchen towel, it will be easier to grasp and it will go over the nozzle more easily the first time. The hose should sit very wide and straight on the nozzle - otherwise the hose can kink later during operation and not enough water will flow. Then place the white angled connector onto the free end of the hose so that it points backwards. (see picture below)
Attach the hose to the upper shell.
- Take the upper shell in your left hand and hold it close to the lower shell, as shown below. With your right hand, insert the white angled connector at the end of the hose into the small pump opening and then carefully lower the upper shell completely. Press the upper shell a little firmly so that it rests well on the silicone ring of the lower shell and, if necessary, correct the position of the cable again so that it runs through the two small recesses in the respective shell and the upper shell rests completely on the silicone ring all around.
Insert the hose with the angle connector into the pump.
- Plug the power adapter into a power outlet and connect the small plug on the cable to the power adapter.
- In the first few minutes you may hear slight noises in the pump caused by small air bubbles. Simply wait a few minutes until the air has completely escaped and the pump runs “whisper-quiet”. If you want to "bleed" the pump more quickly, you can also unplug and plug it back in a few times.
Congratulations, your Lucky-Kitty cat fountain is now fully assembled - now your cat(s) just need to get used to the new drinking place. Cats usually need around 1-7 days to trust the new drinking facility. We have put together information about the right place to set it up and some other tips and tricks to make it easier for your cat to get used to a cat fountain.
- To refill water while it is running, simply pour a glass of water into the cat fountain from above.
- To clean, simply proceed in reverse order.

Cleaning the Lucky Kitty cat fountain
- The Upper bowl and lower bowl You can easily wash the Lucky Kitty cat fountain in the sink or put it in the dishwasher. Since both bowls have no corners or edges and are made of high-quality ceramic, this is very easy. Please note that the foam rubber feet on the lower tray can come off in the dishwasher.
- The best way to clean the cat fountain hose is with a hose brush like the one included in our hose set . You can also get these hose brushes in pharmacies. Many customers have told us that a pipe cleaner also works well. If you don't have one of these to hand, just "knead" the hose thoroughly in the rinse water.
- Remember to also the two white connectors onto which the hose is plugged should be thoroughly cleaned from time to time, so that no dirt or lime builds up in it. Using a tube brush or pipe cleaner is also very helpful here. Many of our customers also swear by denture cleaner tabs to clean the areas that are difficult to reach.
- The Pump the Lucky-Kitty cat fountain can and must be disassembled for cleaning. We explain exactly how this works here:
The cleaning of the Lucky-Kitty pump
In order for the pump to last a long time and run quietly, it must be cleaned regularly and, if necessary, decalcified. The pump can be easily dismantled into several parts without tools; A thorough cleaning only takes a few minutes.
- When cleaning the Lucky Kitty pump, always unplug it from the power outlet.
- Open the black side flap - which is only attached - with your fingernail or carefully with a small screwdriver or a dull knife. (If you haven't done this for a long time, there may already be lime between the lid and the housing and the cap will be difficult to remove.)
Remove cover cap.
- Also remove the second, black propeller cover underneath.
Remove propeller cover.
- Pull the small, green propeller (on some pumps it is also blue) from its magnetic holder.
(Works very well e.g. with the help of tweezers or paper clip or with the handle of our cleaning brush )
Pull out the propeller.
- Clean the pump thoroughly under running, warm water. (not too hot, otherwise the pump and suction feet can deform) This works particularly well with an old toothbrush. To remove stubborn deposits, place the pump in water for a few minutes and add some dishwashing liquid. In this case, rinse the pump thoroughly with fresh water afterwards! Pay particular attention to the opening in which the propeller is inserted - there must be no dirt or limescale deposits in it or on the propeller magnet! (Please note: when the parts are wet you can hardly see limescale deposits - when they are dry you can see the white deposits very well) Otherwise the pump will become loud or may even stop completely.
Clean the pump.
-
Clean the angled connector . Always clean the small white angled connector that is in the pump and the connector in the upper shell. Dirt or limescale tends to build up in the very hard-to-see interior and after a while this means that the pump appears to pump less water. Use either our small brush from the hose set or a pipe cleaner, toothpick, skewer, denture cleaning tabs or pull a string/cord through the connector several times. To descale, simply place the angled connector in a little lemon water or descaling solution as described below.
Clean the inside of the angle socket regularly.
-
Descaling. If you have very hard water and limescale deposits have already formed on the pump, place all parts in a bowl with a mild descaling solution for an hour or two. (Please note: when the parts are wet, you can hardly see limescale deposits - when they are dry, you can see the white deposits very well) Diluted citric acid has proven to be particularly suitable because, in contrast to acetic acid, it does not damage the pump's rubber feet damages quickly. Citric acid (E330) in powder form for dissolving in water is available very cheaply, for example in drugstores or pharmacies. In a pinch, water and the juice of a squeezed lemon or a good dash of household vinegar will also work. Always place the pump in the descaler so that the rubber feet point upwards and do not come into contact with the descaler liquid.
Descale pump parts.
- Once all the pump parts are nice and clean and free of limescale, put the propeller back in its holder, put on the propeller cover and then the side pump cover. From time to time you should take the metal axle on which the rotor is placed and the magnet of the propeller with you a touch Grease with petroleum jelly (pharmacy, drugstore). (Works well, e.g. with a cotton swab)
- You can also download the cleaning instructions for the Lucky-Kitty pump here as a PDF to your computer.
Cleaning and disinfecting the long-hair permanent filter
- Simply boil the long-hair permanent filter for 2-3 minutes. You can also simply pour boiling water from the kettle over it and/or put the wet filter in the microwave for two minutes at 500-600 watts. After that, it will be germ-free again.
- If you have very hard water, limescale can build up on the filter, which can lead to an unpleasant "musty" smell - in this case, please also descale the filter regularly.
